Since the new year began, I haven't introduced any new handmade cards on the blog. Since Chinese New Year passed this week, I think it's appropriate to show custom New Year cards I made for 2012!
My good friend Anysa wanted to show some love to a few of her long distance friends. It's been a while since she's seen them so she wanted to send a little new year surprise their way. Each person she described to me had their own unique personality, but what bonded them to Anysa was their love for travel & adventure.
That's how I came up with the idea of a travel/destination theme for the card, with little airplanes traveling around the world. I wanted to also feature a ball drop, similar to what people witness in New York City around NYE. For the inside of the card, I wanted to create backgrounds to the places her friends were actually residing in now, two in California & one in Chicago.
The card is standard size & measures 5.5" x 4.25". The numbers background is clear embossed & distressed with ink. The ball drop background is border punched & distressed with the same ink as the card background.
Two types of ribbon are used to add more embellishment to the borders. The sticker numbers are dimensionally adhered & covered with glitter glue & instead of using the zero sticker, it's replaced with a globe that's covered in glitter & glossy accents.
Inside the blue card, a city landscape background is created for the Chicago resident. I didn't want the greeting message to cover up the buildings so a vellum attachment is stapled inside & the message is typed there.
The same airplane flying banner is used inside as well and the names of the sender & receiver are written on the banner in glitter ink.
For the two Californian girls, a tropical background is added with palm trees. A vellum message is also attached inside so that the background isn't disturbed & can be seen through.
The envelope is kept really simple & includes the airplane with the message 'Happy New Year' on the banner.
The card appears to be thick however it fits perfectly inside the envelope.
Presently...
I've been house-sitting my parents' place with my brother while they're away on vacation. It's been a rough adjustment since I feel like I'm on a vacation myself but because I only live 15 minutes away from them it's easy for me to go back & forth from one place to another. I did manage to bring A LOT of my crafting supplies here so I'm hoping to keep up with daily crafting.
A lot of things are planned for this year so I'm going to try my best & start being more active around here & other online networks I have. Let's hope for the best!
