My mother has been watching me make cards for about a couple months now. She's never asked me to make her one before but I can always see that 'I wish my daughter made me a card' look. So as Mother's Day was approaching, it was the perfect time to sit down & create something special for my mama dukes. Since we always get her flowers, I figured the best theme for the card would be flowers, along with her favorite color brown. I first took white card stock & made a card into the measurements 6" x 4". Then I used two colors of Japanese washi tape & a blue glitter pen to make the borders around the brown [with white & green flowers] card stock. I cut & taped ribbon at the bottom of the brown card stock. The funny thing about the ribbon is that if I turned it around, the words "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" would be seen all across it.. but since it went so well with the color scheme, I just used the back of the ribbon & adhered it to the card. After that, I took light blue alpha stickers to say "Happy Mothers Day!" For final touches, I colored in some of the middle parts of the flowers & added buttons to three flowers.
I love to create the same theme inside the card to match the front of the card. Plus I wanted to surprise my mother with baby pictures of me, my sister, & my brother. She wishes we were still little innocent babies so that she can hug & kiss us all day long like she did back in the day. I'm sure all moms think that way though. In case you were wondering, I'm the chubby fat baby on the left.. my sister is the little cute one wearing red lipstick in the middle.. & my adorable trouble making brother is on the right.
For the top of the [inside] card, I started off using the same border design on the bottom. Then I used blue textured card stock as the sky. I stamped green flowers in the background & added brown/white stripes 'grass' underneath the stamped flowers. I took vellum paper & stamped/cut out three cloud-like shapes & added baby pictures over it. I glued the three clouds using foam adhesives in the back, giving it a pop-out effect.
I used the left over brown card stock & made it the place where I would write a personalized message to my mom. Same border theme is seen on the bottom of the [inside] card & on top, I again added ribbon & used alpha stickers to say 'Dear Mom'. On this picture, you can see the 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' written across the ribbon in the back [Mom didn't notice it when I gave it to her.. that's all that matters lol!]. Then I added a red metal heart adhesive & alpha stickers to spell out our nicknames my mom gave us since we were little.
And there you have it. She loves the card so much! On Mother's Day, she left it open & leaned it against the real flowers we brought for her on the kitchen table. As of now, it's hanging up on the refrigerator.. still opened so that she could see her babies everyday. Haha I swear she's hilarious!
