I'm super excited to finally unveil the latest project I finished working on.. the 'My Adventure Book' scrapbook featuring my newest friend Melissa & her sweet husband Hugo.
Couple months ago, Melissa contacted me to find out if I can recreate Ellie & Carl's 'My Adventure Book' from Pixar's movie UP as a surprise birthday gift for Hugo. In the 8 years they're been together, they've traveled to many places so she wanted to document it all in a special scrapbook. And last summer they got married & rather than taking a short honeymoon, they're about to embark in another new adventure - for 6-8 months, they're leaving NYC & heading to Portugal!
So it was up to me to make the absolute best birthday gift Hugo would ever receive! I'll admit, I was super intimidated because I had to make the scrapbook from scratch. But once the book was built, filling in the pages was easy & fun to do.

Measurements of the book came out to be legal size paper [11" x 8.5"]. I used two chipboard pieces & covered it with vinyl & red cloth fabric. I punched two holes on the left side & added leather string to bound the chipboards & cardstock papers together.
I didn't have the font for the lettering used in Ellie & Carl's book but I had stamps with a similar freestyle effect to it. So I stamped the letters on white cardstock, outlined it with black pen & cut out each letter, hoping they all would fit into the book (thankfully it did).
I would say the hardest part about the book covers was just using glue & waiting for it to dry. I don't have much patience & I had to redo the front cover because I messed it up [had to keep telling myself.. 'practice makes perfect' over & over]. Overall it came out looking 10x better than I had expected!

If you look at the inside pages of Ellie & Carl's book, you'll see how simple & easy everything was put together. Most of the pages are filled with photos, each with black photo corners. When embellishments were involved, it was random things [ripped articles, pins, drawings, stamps, etc.] put together with glue & tape.
So I created similar pages to Melissa & Hugo's book but added little more details using embellishments. I had used almost all of my scrapbooking supplies that I've saved for the past 2-3 years.. things I've kept for myself to use in the 'future'. But I realize who knows when that will happen & by then I'll have more cute & fun stuff to work with so why not give these things to the people who'll appreciate it the most.
I divided the book into 4 sections: trips taken in the states, trips taken outside the states, wedding, & daily life. Each event has the same lettering stamps used on the front cover & all the photos have black photo corners. I was able to cut & add stickers on the photos themselves & create my own backgrounds and/or scenary.
Along with the pages I scrapbooked, I added additional pages for Melissa [& Hugo because after this I think he'll want to start scrapbooking hehe] to use for their life in Portugal. As a bonus, I added in a travel package with tons of embellishments to go with the whole theme of the book (along with my own personal letter) & a cute hot air balloon mini-card as a gift tag/birthday card.
Ok enough babbling, below are some of the pages I made:

For a complete look at the book & all of the pages, here's a link to my flickr page. I loved making this custom scrapbook (I know, I say that to almost every thing I've crafted but I'm for real this time!) & I can't wait to see what Melissa [& Hugo] add to the rest of the book.
I'm thinking I should make a couple more 'My Adventure Book's & sell them on Etsy. What you guys think? Would they still be popular?!? Either way I think I'll make one for myself `=]
