here comes hurricane irene

Hurricane Irene is about to hit dirty ole Jersey in a few hours so I figured I would write my last post before the electricity goes out. I won't lie, I've been one of those worried freaks for three whole days straight! No, I don't think we're going to die & that it's the end of the world or anything [my sister thinks I'm already there lol] but I am worried about being flooded.

I have been preparing though. All the tubs & sinks are filled with water. The empty Poland Spring gallons are filled with tap water. I brought canned & dried foods. I made sure my sister made about two days worth of cooked pasta & rice. And I have not one but two flashlights on my bed in case one decides to die on me [couldn't find any D size batteries!!!]. Overall I think I'm more prepared than I ever will be.

So to all my East Coast family, friends, acquintances & readers, be safe & don't be stupid out there [just watched 3 guys 'swimming' in VA beach as the hurricane was approaching!].

congratulations grad! card

This summer I got to witness both my siblings graduate from grad & high school. I can't believe they're getting big.. now sis is working full time & little bro is heading off to his first year in college. We sure are getting old..

To celebrate this joyous occasion, I got inspired to create this card. The card is actually very simple to make despite how elaborate it might appear. The main feature of the card is the sheet of pattern paper from DCWV's 'High School' stack. Both the words & black flowy design are included on the sheet.

My main concern was to embellish the paper even more to make it stand out. I used a white gel pen & highlighted a few words like 'GRADUATE' or 'I DID IT!' Then I carefully added silver glitter to the black circles & swirly designs. I used liquid glitter (from a tube) so I had full control on how much pressure I could apply to the design.

I had to let the white gel pen & glitter dry but once it did, I punched all four corners of the paper & adhered it to a black standard size card. A black & white damasked ribbon is used as a border & faux stitching is added around the paper.

To finish the front of the card, an embossed 'Congratulations!' banner is added with a bit of gray & silver pearls on one end of the banner.

I realize that since the card was made of black cardstock, the only way to write inside would be if someone had a gel pen. So I used the same pattern paper from the front of the card & added it inside.

week in th life: sunday

last sunday me & a few friends headed back to nyc for a day trip to celebrate bestie's 27th birthday. 

the plan was to take the path train again but it was too hot & sis decided to take the turnpike & drive all the way there. good thing she did because lack of sleep + air conditioning + no traffic = happy vee `=)

we went by chelsea piers to this hot spot place called the frying pan. you sit either on or by a boat & enjoy the summer breeze all day while drinking beer.. i can't complain.

the view was pretty. first we decided to sit on the boat but the sun was directly hitting us so we chose for an umbrella.

i got the veggie burger by accident. long story short, the menu said chopped veggie burger, which i thought meant a regular burger with veggies.. guess not. it didn't taste so great but i had french fries to get me full.

we then all walked around the city, specifically looking for mr. softee ice cream. ehh we found a bootleg ice cream truck. tasted the same as mr. softee but i don't support it lol.

i got back home late & there were still a pile of dirty dishes i had to clean. i said fudge it & decided let's start the week right with a clean house.

i decided that the last picture of the 'week in the life' series goes to the lemongrass scented candle. i blew it out once i was done cleaning the kitchen & dove right into bed.

And that my friends ends my 'Week in the Life' adventure. I didn't get to do much of the things I planned out but for a first year participant.. it's not bad. Now I just have to get all my photos developed & start working on my mini-book. Once that's done I'll put up photos of the finished product. Tomorrow beings the regularly scheduled program of custom cards I've made in the last 2-3 weeks.

week in the life: saturday

heading over to do some freelance work at an office & as i was waiting, i see a family of deer chilling in the grass. i got out of my car to stalk & take photos but every time i moved, they would watch me like a hawk! yes i am a papparazzi to animals `=]

love the way the sun shined through my car! & look how hot that day was.. geeezz louis!

got a call from bestie that she's heading to the city & that i must come now. i haven't been to nyc in so long so i figured why not have some fun. went over to my friend's house & get all dolled up & head to the path train.

sis let me borrow her dress. i must admit, i miss getting dolled up from time to time. i can't even wear high heels anymore without feeling pain in about an hour. i was not gonna let my feet ruin my night so i chose to cute summer sandals to match the outfit `=]

we took the path train & headed over to park lounge. i've been there so many times. we almost waited at the line which went all the way down the block! but the guy in front of us had friends in front of the line & he asked us if we wanted to come in with them.. who would say no?!?!

as a thank you, we brought the guy his first drink. he turned out to be this 28 yr. old doctor doing this rotations in nyc. he lives in atlanta so he had this cute southern accent too! at the end of the night, he asked for my friend's number while his other friend asked me to be his wing woman for my other friend. sorry buddy if you want her number, you have to do the work!

as we were walking back to the path station, i saw the billboard for crazy stupid love. my sis loves ryan gosling so i had to take this picture & text it to her asap! i still have yet to see this movie so i'm hoping one of these days..

before we headed home, we had to grab a slice of cheese pizza. having already drinking a midouri sour & a corona, this was the perfect "snack" to munch on [& i'm saying 'snack' loosely folks]. i didn't get home until 4:30am but i don't regret it one bit! i def need to go out way more often before summer officially ends
